Course Information

  • Pharma possesses huge amounts of high-quality data from clinical trials. This data can be repurposed in a multitude of areas, which have the potential to increase effectiveness of clinical trials, decrease the need of patient enrollment and optimize the drug development process in several ways, which can ultimately decrease the price of new medicine. Hence, the sharing of data between pharma companies can significantly reduce the cost of drugs and the time to launch and fill some of the gaps of documented real-world effect. It thus seems that data is the new oil.

This course explores the question: How can pharma companies evaluate the value and start trading data, thus competing with Amazon and Google in the market for data? To enable the reuse of data, pharma needs to understand the value and price tag to create a clinical data market. Such a data market has some challenges. Data acts differently than other commodities. If unused, it has no value, but it can be copied infinitely, thus scarcity of a certain data set does not exist. This course will discuss the importance of a clinical data market and shine light on why data is such a potent business case for
pharma. The course will propose a framework for valuing data in a concrete case. Gain an understanding of the dynamics of valuing data and this emerging business area to put a price on your own pharma or biotech company’s data sets.

After the completion of this course participants will be able to:
    • Describe data trading as a potential new business model in pharma
    • Understand the nature of data as a commodity
    • Understand the framework for valuing data
    • Gain access to the tools to access value of own data sets

The access period once enrolled into the course is 60 days from the date of purchase. After this duration, you will need to re-enroll if you wish to re-enter the course.
