Unlocking the Power of Real-World Evidence introduces learners to how real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) are transforming health care decision-making. Through seven concise sections, the course explores the strengths and limitations of clinical trials and RWD sources, the role of physician-led chart abstraction, and methods to replicate trial outcomes in real-world research. Learners will also examine innovative approaches such as external control arms and digital twins, while considering how human behavior and clinical context influence both care and evidence generation.

This microcourse was developed in collaboration with experts from Cardinal Health, an ISPOR Mission Partner organization.

After the completion of this course participants will be able to:

• Differentiate between clinical trial data and real-world data (RWD), describing the strengths and limitations of each in generating real-world evidence (RWE).
• Explain the role of physician-led chart abstraction and its contribution to real-world evidence generation.
• Describe methods used to replicate clinical trial outcomes in real-world research settings.
• Discuss innovative approaches such as external control arms and digital twins and their applications in real-world studies.
• Analyze how human behavior and clinical context influence both health care decision-making and the generation of real-world evidence.
