Course Information

  • One of the great challenges in healthcare and medicine is the gap that exists between the generation of research evidence and the uptake of evidence in routine healthcare delivery. The existence of the evidence is not enough to influence healthcare practice, in fact, this gap is sometimes described using the following statement: it takes nearly 17 years for just 14% of clinical practices and products intended to benefit patients are taken up in routine care.

Stakeholders across all sectors of healthcare are actively seeking new ways to implement the practices and products they know work, and implementation science offers a framework to bridge the evidence to practice gap that currently exists. Gain new knowledge of implementation science in this course and learn how to conduct the work through case study examples in practice. Explain the value of an implementation science approach to key stakeholders including patients, healthcare providers, and payers.

    Learning Objectives:
Define key concepts and theories used in implementation science.
Describe examples of implementation science in healthcare.
Utilize key principles of implementation science to design an implementation science study.
Develop plans for conducting, executing, and evaluating an implementation science study.
